Brooklyn, NY (April 10, 2013)—In conjunction with the proposed redesign of Brooklyn’s Health Care System the Community Health Planning Workgroup (CPHW), a consortium of community stakeholders, healthcare providers and community health planners, today released The Need for Caring in North and Central Brooklyn, A Community Health Needs Assessment, sponsored by The Brooklyn Hospital Center, the I M Foundation, and the New York State Department of Health. The Community Health Needs Assessment, conducted by the Brooklyn Perinatal Network, the Commission on the Public’s Health System, and New York Lawyers for the Public Interest, sheds additional light on North and Central Brooklyn residents’ perception of the needs, gaps and barriers to care in their communities.(read more)

BROOKLYN, NY –In two separate transactions, The Brooklyn Hospital Center has restructured and refinanced $80 million of debt, reducing its debt by $25million and saving nearly $10 million in interest.  The transactions, which eliminated the last major hurdle remaining from The Brooklyn Hospital Center’s 2007 Plan of Reorganization, leaves the hospital’s balance sheet significantly stronger permitting it to pursue investments in infrastructure and other capital initiatives.(read more)

100 big hearted bikers on Harleys will deliver gifts for the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Adult Oncology Departments at The Brooklyn Hospital Center, Saturday, April 30, 2011, 12:30 p.m., 121 DeKalb Avenue in Brooklyn. The bikers will drive by the hospital en masse, park and proceed to the hospital’s cafeteria, where they will present gift certificates to TBHC Pediatric Chief Dr. Swayam Sadanandan. The third annual fundraiser is the brainchild of Unknown Biker member Roberto Valentin, whose daughter Alexis was diagnosed with lymphoma at the age of 14 in 2006 and treated by Dr. Sadanandan. She will be on hand to introduce Dr. Sadanandan to her newborn daughter Krisleigh Grace—born on March 16th. (read more)
