Editor's Memo

May 10, 2010

I am thrilled and proud to introduce the first Brooklyn Hospital Center online academic journal. Providing excellent medical care is certainly at the core of our clinical mission. Investigating ways to advance the practice of medicine and surgery is central to our academic mission and is yet another way in which we contribute to the health and well-being of our community as well as to the education of our students and physicians-in-training.

This journal also represents a significant step forward in the growth and development of research at our hospital. Many top-tier institutions around the country represent their original work in similar types of publications, and we should be proud that we can begin to stand with them. Building the level and impact of our research will, of course, take resources, time and effort, but with the current academic leadership, I have no doubt that we can extend the value of our hospital way beyond our local and regional communities.

Congratulations again to all involved in making this journal a reality. I look forward to reading what I am sure will be the first of many great issues!
