The Dentistgry & Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery Department serves a large and diverse population in an active ambulatory care setting, providing emergency and comprehensive oral and maxillofacial surgery at The Brooklyn Hospital Center.
Inpatient surgical procedures are preformed in six modern operating room suites, equipped with state-of-the art oral and maxillofacial surgery instrumentation, including bone plating systems, implant systems, arthroscopy equipment and lasers.
The Brooklyn Hospital Center's four-year residency program in oral and maxillofacial surgery is fully accredited by the American Dental Association and approved by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. There are four positions available, one for each year of training. The fourth year is at the Chief Resident level.
Residents are exposed to the entire scope of current, state-of-the-art oral and maxillofacial surgery, e.g., orthognathics, temporomandibular joint surgery, reconstructive and implant surgery, and sedation and general anesthetic procedures. A complete and full didactic program is offered with special lecture series in pain control, physical diagnosis, orthognathic surgery and surgical anatomy. Monthly grand rounds are held, at which outside speakers are invited to lecture on state-of-the-art procedures in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
