The Brooklyn Hospital Center cares about “caring”. Our goal is treat our patients and their loved one compassionately and courteously, not just once in a while but every moment of every day. That’s why every year we nominate one of our own who stands out for providing care at the highest level. This year the honor goes to Celeste Banks, RN, a Senior Staff Nurse in our Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU).

Ms. Banks has served here for over 26 years! She began as a student nurse at the Hospital Center and over the years matured into one of New York’s finest nurses.

Her work is of the highest professional standard, though her patients see her not just as a superior nurse but as a rock of support and an anchor as they grapple with serious health issues.

Ms. Banks Caring Heart extends to her colleagues as well. She has been known to call up her co-workers at home when they are sick and even has sent flowers and fruit.

One co-worker remarked, “It’s always a blessing to know someone cares.”

The Brooklyn Hospital Center will publicly recognize Ms. Banks and several Caring Heart award nominees at a ceremony on Friday, October 28, 2011. All are welcome to attend. For more information, contact Father John O’Leary, the director of our multifaith Pastoral Care program and creator of the Caring Hearts Award initiative.
