To help keep the community healthy, you have to go out into the community. That's why The Brooklyn Hospital Center participates in health fairs throughout the borough all year long. But one Saturday every June we host our own health fair, Saturday in the Park.
Our theme this year was "Fifteen minutes can save your life." In fifteen minutes or less, visitors were invited to complete five essential health screenings: Blood Pressure, Glucose, Body Mass Index (BMI), Asthma, and PSA (for prostate cancer).
Dental and foot screenings, HIV/AIDS education, infant CPR training and much more were also on offer. Not one but two enormously talented clowns treated the kids to face painting and balloon tricks, and interested adults were presented with information on affordable health insurance and programs to help manage healthcare costs.
