BROOKLYN, NY –The Brooklyn Hospital Center (TBHC) has launched The Journal of Health Sciences , a peer-reviewed, online forum for the dissemination of scientific literature that will be published on a bi-annual basis and solicit manuscripts from local, regional, national and international sources.
“I am thrilled and proud to introduce the first Brooklyn Hospital Center online academic journal,” said Richard B. Becker, M.D., the hospital’s President and CEO. “This journal represents a significant step forward in the growth and development of research at our hospital. Providing excellent medical care is certainly at the core of our clinical mission. Investigating ways to advance the practice of medicine and surgery is central to our academic mission, and contributes to the health and well being of our community, and the education of our students and physicians in training.”
Harry Dym, D.D.S., Chairman of the Department of Dentistry/Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at TBHC will serve as the Journal’s Editor-in-Chief and head its review board. Benson Yeh, M.D., TBHC’s Chief Academic Officer and Clinical Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and Assistant Dean Weill-Medical College of Cornell will serve as Associate Editor.
“The goal of the Journal is to provide an online forum for the dissemination of scientific literature focused on health sciences that is broad in scope and diverse in opinion,” says Dr. Dym, adding the Winter 2010 issue is currently available on-line in; the next issue will be published in Summer 2010. “The scope of the journal will be broad, covering many disciplines. It will focus less on bench research and more on clinical studies, review articles, interesting case reports and current medical therapeutics.”
