On Wednesday, April 27, The Brooklyn Hospital Center hosted its first annual Sleep Disorder Symposium to increase knowledge and awareness of sleep disorders among Brooklyn medical professionals. The symposium focused on various sleep disorders in adults and children, the diagnostic process and available treatment options. Over 85 area physicians and medical fellows, residents and students from various clinical disciplines attended the event.
One in three Americans suffer from some form sleep-related disorder. Left untreated, disruptions in sleep can lead to hypertension, depression, poor job performance and automobile/industrial accidents. Treatments are available for most sleep-related disorders, but a proper diagnosis must be made before care is provided.
