Salutations and welcome to The Brooklyn Hospital Center! This is a great time to join our family as there are many exciting and fulfilling projects in keep with our mission to provide outstanding health services, education, and research to keep the people of Brooklyn and greater New York healthy. Our hospital is in the process of many improvements— including a fully electronic medical record system. Another important initiative is Service Excellence (SE) that is designed to improve patient and employee satisfaction.

Our hospital has already expanded several of our residency programs and we seek to expand our graduate training programs. In support of these training programs, we have developed a state of the art Simulation Laboratory and medical library; verily, TBHC is an excellent place to complete your medical education and training.

As your Chief Academic Officer and Head of Graduate Medical Education, I am proud to say that our faculty, program administrative staff, and departmental leaders are dedicated to your education and training. Our faculty has the knowledge, temperament, and personal scholarship to mentor you into becoming a leader in medicine and to epitomize our 160+ years of excellence in graduate medical education and research. Many of our scholarly pursuits are supported by competitive grants, which range from primary care to sub-specialty practice; TBHC truly lives our goal to be an innovator in medical practice and excel in education.

Our diversity is a cornerstone of TBHC’s success. From our patients to our faculty to our nurses and to our ancillary staff, TBHC represents the very best of diversity and acceptance. We look forward to your participation in our common values of community service, respect, efficiency, accountability, teamwork, and excellence. This online introduction is intended to facilitate your transition to The Brooklyn Hospital Center and to be a caring and compassionate member of our team. Remember that a team leader is most effective when they listen, not just hear what others are saying.

To facilitate your transition to TBHC, we have developed the Online Orientation for Incoming Housestaff that includes Resource Center and Online Modules. Please review the Resource Center documents and complete the Online Modules along with the assessments prior to your first day at TBHC.

I warmly welcome you to our home—and look forward to working with each and every one of you.
