    TBHC Announces the Appointment of Pratibha Vemulapalli, MD as Chair of the Department of Surgery

    The Brooklyn Hospital Center (TBHC) announced today the appointment of Pratibha Vemulapalli, MD as Chair of the Department of Surgery. Dr. Vemulapalli will provide clinical and administrative leadership for the Department of Surgery, which consists of 11 divisions, over 100 surgeons, and 25 residents and fellows.

    “We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Vemulapalli to the leadership team at The Brooklyn Hospital Center as Chair of the Department of Surgery,” said Gary Terrinoni, TBHC’s President and CEO. “She brings a commitment to surgical excellence, and will strengthen and expand high-quality surgical services for our patients.”

    Dr. Vemulapalli previously served as Director of Bariatric Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center and Director of Perioperative Services at Montefiore Bronx Hospitals and Ambulatory Surgery Centers; she also was an Attending Surgeon at Montefiore Medical Center and Jack D. Weiler Hospital.

    “The Brooklyn Hospital Center provides Brooklyn residents with care that meets national quality standards in their neighborhood,” said Dr. Vemulapalli. “I want to build upon the success of the Department of Surgery to improve the patient experience and satisfaction, as well as develop new services and centers of excellence to meet the needs of our community.” TBHC has recently been recognized for its high-quality care as a US News & World Report Best Hospital for heart failure, as well as awards from the American Heart Association for stroke and heart failure care.

    Dr. Vemulapalli has held faculty appointments at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She is Board certified in General Surgery, and is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, as well as being a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. She is the author of numerous peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and serves as a reviewer for the peer review journals Surgical Endoscopy.

    Surgical Laparoscopy, Endoscopy & Percutaneous Technique, and Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases (SOARD).

    Dr. Vemulapalli received her Medical Degree from Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University, and her Bachelor of Science from Pennsylvania State University.
