    TO ENCOURAGE BREASTFEEDING FOR BROOKLYN BABIES, BP ADAMS ANNOUNCES MOTHER’S DAY PARTNERSHIP WITH HOSPITALS TO PROVIDE RESOURCE CARDS FOR NEW PARENTS

    BROOKLYN, NY - May 6, 2016, Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams joined maternal health care providers, breastfeeding advocates, and mothers with their newborns to announce a partnership with Brooklyn hospitals for his baby cards initiative, which will offer a note of greetings to new mothers, information on breastfeeding, and other resources for parents. The cards, which expand on his Family Friendly Brooklyn Initiative, also invite parents to visit the lactation lounge at Brooklyn Borough Hall, a comfortable, private room open to the public for breastfeeding and pumping milk. Borough President Adams spoke about the substantial benefits of breastfeeding as well as honoring the many contributions of our mothers on Mother’s Day.

    FIFTH ANNUAL UNKNOWN BIKERS DONATION RIDE FOR THE BROOKLYN HOPSITAL CENTER PEDIATRIC ONCOLOGY DEPARTMENT

    The Fifth Annual fundraiser is the brainchild of Unknown Bikers’ member Roberto Valentin, whose daughter Alexis was diagnosed with lymphoma at the age of 14 in 2006, and was treated by Dr. Swayam Sadanandan. More than 15,000 children and adolescents annually are diagnosed with cancer each year in the United States, including approximately 120 in Brooklyn.

    BROOKLYN TAKES AIM AT LUNG CANCER

    BROOKLYN, NY – Prominis Medical and The Brooklyn Hospital Center (TBHC) announced today a joint collaboration aimed at combating the rate of lung cancer for Brooklyn residents. Detecting lung cancer at its earliest stages, when it is most treatable, is now a reality. The new low dose CT scan screening program identifies people at risk and helps them begin treatment long before symptoms occur. The quick and innovative screening technology was recently approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and is now available for use. “The new Low-Dose CT Screening for the early detection of lung cancer is a game changer,” says Dr. Shalom Buchbinder, Chairman of Radiology at TBHC. “With this new scan we can identify and treat the first signs of cancer, allowing most patients to survive long term.”

    THE BROOKLYN HOSPITAL CENTER NAMES NEW PRESIDENT AND CEO

    BROOKLYN, NY – The Brooklyn Hospital Center’s Board of Trustees announced today the appointment of Gary G. Terrinoni as the hospital’s new President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Terrinoni is presently Executive Vice President of Administration (COO) and Chief Financial Officer of Kennedy Health System. The System, located in Voorhees, New Jersey, includes three acute care hospitals. Mr. Terrinoni’s appointment is the result of a nationwide search for a successor to Dr. Richard B. Becker, who stepped down in March. Mr. Terrinoni will begin at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in November.

    The Brooklyn Hospital Center Opens New IT Data Center

    The Brooklyn Hospital Center will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new IT Data Center on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 from 12pm – 2pm. New York City Councilwoman Laurie Cumbo, TBHC clinicians, Board of Trustees and IT staff will mark this achievement and tour the new center.
