“I enjoy eating all over New York and decompressing with my after-work walks with my husband and my sweet goldendoodle, Dublin. I like the constant variety — every day is different! On one 24-hour call, I did a myomectomy in the morning, IUD placement in the afternoon, then vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections in the evening!”
Elsa Parra, MD

“I like to dance, go for long walks and try new restaurants with friends in my free time. Recently, I started painting. As an OB/GYN, I can care for patients over the course of their lifetimes and support them through some of the most memorable moments of their lives. We also do everything from routine outpatient care to emergency surgery, so there is never a dull moment!”

“My hobbies include music, working out, outdoor water sports, reading, enjoying time with family/friends, trying new restaurants and exploring the city. I enjoy the operative nature of the specialty, diversity of health care integrations into the specialty, medical and non-medical, patient population, creating new families and building larger ones.”

“I’m originally from California and was transported to the East Coast for residency. In my spare time, my main hobby is rock climbing, but I love being outdoors in general and exploring all the city life NYC has to offer. I chose OB/GYN because I love the surgical aspect and being involved in women’s health care at all ages. I love being able to be there for women at the happiest and saddest moments of their lives.”

“My hobbies include going to live music/shows, going for walks and to the park with my mini schnauzer Yogi and exploring my new city. I didn’t always have this field on my radar as a medical student, but after my first delivery, I was hooked! There’s no specialty more encompassing and interpersonal than OB/GYN; from clinic visits to the OR, from adolescence through adulthood, you truly get to see and do it all. This field enables me to treat women over decades of life, through some of their most beautiful and most distressing times, and I cherish the long-term relationships this allows me to form with my patients as a physician. I could not imagine myself in any other field and I look forward to many rewarding years ahead getting to do what I love.”

“My hobbies include cooking, cocktail crafting, gardening, painting and trying new restaurants. I like that OB/GYN grants you the option to choose primary care vs. the more procedural aspect of the specialty — or both!”

“Listening to music, spending time with friends, and working out are some of the things that keep me going. When I’m lucky enough to find the time, I’m usually somewhere warm and sandy. I love working with women towards achieving their personal healthcare goals, whether that be a vaginal delivery or finding the right contraceptive. Our patients let us into some of the most important and intimate moments of their lives, and that is a really special privilege. Also, OB/GYN offers so much variety that there is always something new to learn, do and see--you’ll never get bored!”

“I love jogging, exploring the city, cheering on FSU football, listening to podcasts, making Spotify playlists and playing lacrosse. When I'm not on the labor and delivery floor, you can find me at a comedy show or concert around the city. As an OB/GYN, I love empowering women when it comes to their healthcare. I am passionate about reproductive health education, from counseling patients one-on-one in clinic about birth control methods to creating and implementing sex education curricula. It's such a privilege to form those close patient relationships and be there for some of my patients' biggest life moments.”
Terri-Ann Nelson, MD

“I enjoy creating fashion and women’s health-related content for social media, and brunching. OB/GYN provides many opportunities to be an advocate for reproductive justice. And, I enjoy delivering babies at all times of the day.”

“I love trying new restaurants in the city, especially if it’s a noodle place. On my days off, l enjoy spending time with friends and family and catching up on Netflix shows. I love the fast-paced environment and diversity of the field, from surgery to primary care and everything in between. One of the most fulfilling parts of OB/GYN is to empower women and to be part of such a memorable time of our patients’ lives. And besides, delivering babies has to be one of the most rewarding jobs!”

“I like to spend time outside, so my hobbies include running and sailing. I travel when I can and spend time with my family and friends. I also plan to do research in domestic abortion policy, so I like to read and meet other advocates. OB/GYN has everything I want in a specialty and it allows me to expand my exposure to populations I am interested in working with, like people who need abortion care and people who use substances in pregnancy. I can use a harm reduction approach with a psych emphasis, all while doing a surgical specialty. We need a lot of policy change for equity to be a reality, and OB/GYN allows me to be a bigger part of this than I could in another specialty.”
Linda Martinez Berrios, MD
Bayamón, Puerto Rico
Ross University School of Medicine
“During my free time, I enjoy going to the beach, spending time with my teacup yorkie, going to Broadway shows and exploring the diversity of cuisines available in NYC. I enjoy the unprecedented nature of this field and the almost endless possibilities of practice focus after residency. What's unique about this specialty is the ability to simultaneously train for surgical and acute care while practicing primary care as well. The opportunity to provide continuity of care and to educate women about their reproductive health, and to accompany patients during life-changing events are some of the aspects that make this specialty ideal for me.”

“I enjoy spending time with my significant other and friends, trying new restaurants, going for walks and exploring NYC. I like watching and playing soccer, basketball and tennis. I love the versatility that the field of OB/GYN has to offer. I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of our patients' most meaningful moments of their lives and impact them by delivering their babies, performing surgery or providing longitudinal care to promote their health.”
