Goals of the Research Program

  • Train the residents with the necessary knowledge and skills to develop themselves toward either academic surgeons or solid clinicians with clinical research capabilities
  • Improve the research efforts of the department

Research Activities of the Program

  • Leadership/mentorship for research group
  • Approval of research projects with the IRB
  • Discussion on the progress of the projects
  • Presentation of research projects by the residents
  • Departmental annual research day
  • Institution resident research day

Research Requirements for the Residents
Each categorical resident is required to complete two research projects prior to graduation:

  1. A journal publication
  2. A presentation at a local, regional, national or international meeting

Residents who are invited to present will have all expenses paid by the GME fund.

Dr. Brian Gilchrist is the Chair of the Research Committee.
All residents have unrestricted electronic access to the Mount Sinai Medical School Library / please follow instructions from GME office.
